Welcoming Our Danish Friends

Every other year our music department embarks on a music tour to nourish musicianship, build relationships, and serve through music ministry. A key component of this large undertaking is that our students are billeted.

help us to billet the performers

This April we will be hosting a 70-member youth choir from Denmark, and we are looking forward to providing this choir with the comfort, hospitality, and relationships that we have been fortunate enough to experience on our tours. Billeting students develops a cultural appreciation and lessens the cost of otherwise expensive tours.

Ranging in age from 16 – 19, the Sankt Annae Youth Choir from the Copenhagen Municipal Choir School tours every other year under the protection of His Royal Highness Crown Prince Frederik.

After seeing Montreal, Ottawa, and Toronto, the singers will visit Hamilton. My sincere hope is that you might be able to provide two or more singers with a place to sleep, some meals, pick ups/drop-offs, and a warm welcome to our community. Although the group is not explicitly Christian, they are aware of HDCH as a Christ-centered school. I see this as a wonderful opportunity for both parties. The outline of the itinerary is below:

Tuesday, April 9th
Pick up from HDCH at 3:30/4:00 pm. They leave Toronto at 2:00, so timing depends on traffic. Hosted students would appreciate some time with the families.
Meals: dinner, breakfast next day.

Wednesday, April 10th
Drop off students at HDCH by 9:00 am. From there they will enjoy a pre-arranged excursion, afternoon rehearsal, and evening joint concert. You are invited to attend the concert:

  • 7:00 pm
  • Melrose United Church
  • 86 Homewood Avenue (by Locke St).

After the concert our students go home with their host families. Pick up from Melrose United at around 8:30 pm.
Meals: Snack or light dinner in the evening, breakfast next day.

Thursday, April 11th
Drop off students at HDCH by 9:00 am. Final goodbyes. From here students will provide a small concert and then leave to Niagara.
