Seniors’ Day

Seniors’ Day is a favorite day on our academic calendar and this year was no exception. Students had the opportunity to share their gifts and their work both on stage, in the hallways and in the classroom. We are very blessed to have a faithful inter-generational community that encourages us and supports us.

More than 350 seniors were our guests for the morning which included a program featuring a variety of musical performances and a scene from the Sound of Music production. Sydney Shields shared devotional before lunch and spoke about the interconnection of generations doing God’s work. And how it is not up to us or past or future generations but up to God. When Seniors toured classrooms they were able to connect with students/grandchildren. If they stopped in the art room they were also able to see how the students designed and created the “Everyday Hero” greeting cards which were presented to them as they arrived.

The delicious meat pies that were ordered from Hamilton Meat Pie Co arrived hot and ready to serve. Serving lunch to more than 300 guests is no small feat and we were able to provide generous hospitality with Evelyn Hielema coordinating the kitchen with support from our Student Ambassador Team and a number of parent and alumni volunteers. Thank you to Christina Demik, Kelly Dilda, Jaden Dilda, Liisa Farrugia, Natasha Postuma, Jessica VandenBrink and Trixie Zimmerman. Fred Eisinga and his crew work hard to set up the gym for this event as well.

Thank you to Vos Floral for donating the carnations on the tables and Tim Hortons for donating coffee for this event. We are also grateful that Rehoboth United Reformed Church generously allows us to park in their lot when we have the need.

OFSAA ~ June 6 – 8th

We are excited to share that HDCH is hosting OFSAA, the Ontario Provincial ‘A’ Soccer Championships, this June.

We host OFSAA for two reasons.

  1. hosting provides our young HDCH athletes with the opportunity to develop sportsmanship and community.
  2. it allows us to share HDCH’s generous hospitality and commitment to excellence with people from all over the province.

OFSAA is a large undertaking that involves 45 coaches, many volunteers, and 800 soccer players from all over Ontario. We’ll also be welcoming spectators including parents, grandparents and other community members. As alumni and parents and a part of our support community, we invite you to participate in this terrific event.

Learn more about ways you can help ensure that OFSAA is a success for all involved.
