OUAC and OCAS Mid Term marks
Student transcripts for OUAC and OCAS were updated this week. It is very important for students to check their online accounts for accuracy. Students who are enrolled in independent studies or correspondence courses must check their accounts to make sure that all credits are accounted for. Students should ensure that mid-term marks are reported to Student Services.
Don’t forget to check the deadline to accept your college or university offer! Deadlines for accepting offers to most college or university programs are from mid-May through early June; however, some schools require responses as early as May 1 (TODAY).
Many schools will also ask for a tuition or residence deposit about the same time. Keep a close eye on online accounts for detailed information about your specific programs.

Grade 11 Students ~ Each year, HDCH is pleased to award the John Buesink Memorial Award. The bursary is awarded annually to a grade 11 student who is honest, trustworthy, and loving toward people in need, and who has demonstrated giftedness in the business program at HDCH. The applicant will have a clear understanding of Christian principles towards work and business practice. Check out the Student Services EDSBY page for details.

Application deadline for the Buesink Award is May 30! The bursary consists of a $750 credit applied to the grade 12 tuition of the recipient and a $250 cash award.
Students are invited to submit an application which includes:
- a letter/reflection exploring why they value Christian Education and why they value HDCH
- a description of their involvement in community and church settings
- a discussion of ethical business practices
- a transcript
- a letter of reference
There are still a number of graduating students who need to submit their Volunteer Service hours through hourRepublic. For a handy “how to” sheet on verifying hours, check the StuServ page on EDSBY. The deadline for graduates to submit hours is May 30.

On April 9th, HDCH hosted a presentation of the award-winning documentary, Screenagers. We had a great evening with some fantastic discussions. - Tech Talk Tuesdays: the filmmaker hosts a weekly blog around specific issues related to tech and social media. The blog provides conversation starters, suggestions, research and tools to help families navigate their digital experiences.
- Andy Crouch: The Tech-Wise Family: Everyday Steps for Putting Technology in Its Proper Place. Using research from the Barna Group, Andy Crouch’s book explores how we as families can develop “wisdom, character, and courage in the way we use digital media rather than accepting technology’s promises of ease, instant gratification, and the world’s knowledge at our fingertips.” There are additional resources like workbooks and webcasts.
- The Government of Canada publishes a comprehensive guide on cyber-safety and digital citizenship, downloadable as a PDF. The website offers some helpful tips on what you can say and how you can respond.
- Common Sense Media is a “nonprofit organization dedicated to helping kids thrive in a world of media and technology.” It has lots of articles and resources for families around a variety of topics.
- The Centre for Addiction and Mental Health has a short online self-directed course on youth and technology which includes tips and a good resource list:
- The Canadian Mental Health Association has a five-part series entitled “Social Media and Mental Health.” While not specifically directed for adolescents, the series offers peer-reviewed, evidence-based observations and strategies.
