Professional Development Days
HDCH Staff Winter Residency Professional Development
On February 14 and 15 HDCH staff gathered for our annual “Winter Residency.” These are back-to-back PD days designed to allow staff to dive deeply into an area of Professional Development for exploration, education, collaboration, and growth.
This year’s theme was designing learning around Faith, Worldview, and Character Development, which fuels us as we continue to wholeheartedly pursue our school mission of Cultivating Character through Learning for a life of Service to God.
Staff spent the first morning together on our own “entry event” for the two days. We met at a downtown church and spent the morning engaging with a panel of experts on faith and learning. We were challenged to think about our own Worldview as it is expressed in our “World – do.”
After our entry event, we returned to HD for the balance of the two days where, Darryl DeBoer, Director of Learning from Surrey Christian Schools in BC helped to lead us. We explored and put in time designing student learning around faith, worldview, and character development.
Time was spent reflecting on our Deep Hopes for our work, examining our current classroom practices, learning from Darryl, and using new tools to help us each grow our practices. We will be using our Thursday morning Professional Development sessions in the coming weeks to continue this learning journey, working together as we grow deeper into our vision for these practices in our daily work.
In accordance with the Immunization of School Pupils Act, Hamilton Public Health is working to ensure that they have up-to-date vaccination records for all students who attend schools in the City of Hamilton.
Parents are required to communicate their children’s vaccine history to Hamilton Public Health. Details about what and how to report are on the Hamilton Public Health website.
Please note that non-medical vaccine exemptions for school-age children will require the completion of an in-person immunization education session. Further details can be found here.
