OFSAA, Contests & More

OFSAA Volleyball Bronze

Hamilton District Christian High Senior Boys Volleyball Team had an exceptional season, capping it off with a bronze medal victory at the OFSAA Boys A Volleyball Tournament in Belleville.

The HDCH Knights went 3-1 in pool play with their only loss coming to the eventual silver medalists, St. Thomas Aquinas (NWOSSAA). After winning an emotional quarterfinal match (3-1) against St. Mary High School (EOSSA), where their starting setter went down with a sprained ankle in the second set, they lost the next day in the semifinal against the eventual champions, Louis Riel (NCSSAA). The team advanced to an exciting “Battle of Hamilton” against AC Mere-Theresa in the Bronze Medal Match.

After losing the first set 26-24, the Knights came storming back to win the next 3 sets for a 3-1 victory and the bronze medal. This is now back-to-back bronze medals at OFSAA for the boys volleyball team.

CBC Music Class Challenge

Have you heard of the CBC Music Class Challenge? It’s a nation-wide contest where music classes compete to win a $5,000 prize to put toward music equipment in their schools.

The grade 10 Vocals class, which goes by HD Vocals in the competition, has entered the high school vocal category. Through this CBC opportunity, we have developed a strong bond, friendships, and wholesome singing. Our a cappella version of Giants was inspired by many creative vocal arrangers who create interest without the use of instruments.

HD Vocals is a grade 10 vocal class that includes grade 10, 11, and 12 students. In class, we study vocal healthy and anatomy, repertoire, solfege, and theory. Our goal is to encourage one another to develop confident, healthy, and expressive singing. We accomplish this goal through the way we act, sing, and listen.

Livable Cities

In the next stage of their Livable City project, students provided feedback on their peer’s initial designs.  Students are working with planners from the City of Brantford to reimagine how three sites in the city could be developed to serve the Brantford community.

Some of the geography students are attending a town hall in Brantford this evening to learn more about the Master Plan for the City of Brantford, specifically the Mohawk Lake neighbourhood.

Arts Block

Arts block has been considering street art as a social/political construct, so they decided to try their own graffiti initials. Here are some of the fun ones.

Phys Ed

As part of their fitness unit, the grade 10 girls physed students went to a local fitness facility to experience their Cardio Kickboxing workout and Boot Camp style circuit training. For many, it was their first time at a fitness centre.  They loved the workouts, loved being challenged and encouraged by the instructors but didn’t love their sore muscles the next day!

“It was tiring and made me sweat a lot, but it was totally worth it.”
“I thought it was a really neat experience and that I could experience stuff I never did before”
“10/10 …I would go again”
“I thought it was really cool and something I had never heard of before”
