The Olympics are here and we all unite to shout, ‘Go Canada Go!’ With the 14 hour time change in South Korea, we are forced to stay up late or wake up early to catch some of the live action. Thankfully this allows the HDCH community to save our days for, ‘Go Knights Go!’ And much like the 15 different Olympic sports to watch, HDCH has its fair share of sports in action now too!
Boys basketball is underway for both junior and senior teams. Both teams advanced in playoff action far enough to qualify for at least a challenge game to get to SOSSA! This will make for a thrilling end to month of February, as both teams try to find their best basketball of the season.
Girls volleyball qualified for playoffs with both junior and senior team! The midget team also competed in 2 tournaments, winning some games and losing others, all the while showing great improvements and lots of enthusiasm throughout their season. The senior team has qualified for SOSSA and will play the best teams in southern Ontario later this month. The junior team awaits a potential challenge game for their chance to get into SOSSA.
Boys hockey has had a strong start to the season. They played a tournament earlier this week, and continue season play next week. They play in their first ever HWDSB League game today vs. Westmount at 3:30 at Chedoke Arena.
Soccer and badminton teams have begun this week, look at the athletics calendar for future try-out dates. Track and field will also begin soon!
Enjoy the Olympics! Enjoy the Knights! Go Canada Go! Go Knights Go!
Food and Nutrition
On Shrove Tuesday, the period 2 Food & Nutrition class made fresh crepes with a fresh strawberry sauce, whipped filling, mixed berry topping and fresh whipped cream. They also made hundreds of home made pancakes and cooked up delicious Townsend sausages to add to this menu option. To prepare for Pancake Tuesday the class has been focused on flipping their crepes and pancakes without any extra tools and are competing in an in-class pancake day competition. They utilized their creativity in the process too and will continue to develop this with their Valentine baked treats!
The Foods students are sending home delicious Valentines Day treats that they created for their family today!
Christians in Society
The Christians in Society class in conjunction with four Redeemer students have invited our retired adult Christian community to join us in an Adult and Youth Bible Study at HDCH. The vision is an intergenerational Bible Study focusing on learning, growing and deepening our faith together in a small group setting. We meet biweekly on the first and third Tuesday of the month in the HDCH cafeteria from 9 – 10:15 AM in the morning. Our first session was Feb. 6th and we’re looking forward to our next session this Tues. Feb. 20th. We welcome retired adults to join us on any of the Tuesday mornings that suit. If you have any questions please contact Pauline VanderVelde at email@example.com. Blessings. firstname.lastname@example.org
